Canada: Employment was unchanged in April, unemployment rate steady at 5.8%

Employment was essentially unchanged in April and the unemployment rate held steady at 5.8%, Statistics Canada reported this Friday.

Key highlights:

   •  On a year-over-year basis, employment grew by 278,000 (+1.5%).
   •  In the 12 months to April, total hours worked were up 1.9%.
