Canada: Annual CPI rises 1.7% in January

"The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.7% on a year-over-year basis in January, following a 1.9% increase in December," the Statistics Canada reported on Friday.

Key highlights:

Excluding energy, the CPI increased 1.7%, matching the gain in December.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI was up 0.5% in January, following a 0.1% increase in December.
Prices were up in all eight major components in the 12 months to January.
Consumer prices rose less on a year-over-year basis in eight provinces in January than in the previous month.
