ECB member speeches and BoE November meeting record in focus – Lloyds Bank

FXStreet (Delhi) – Jonathan Thomas, Senior Economist at Lloyds Bank, lists down the important events and data releases for the day from the UK and European region.

Key Quotes

“Central bankers are set to take the spotlight. Today’s speeches by the ECB Council members Lautenschlaeger, Nowotny and Hansson may shed some light on last week’s surprisingly tepid ECB policy loosening, while the RBNZ are expected to trim the cash rate by 25bp to 2.5% later tonight.”

“ UK’s attention will focus on the record of the Bank of England’s November Financial Policy Committee meeting. Despite hints that macroprudential policy could be used to dampen the growth of buy-to-let mortgages, the FPC decided against any immediate action in conjunction with last week’s Financial Stability Report. Today’s record should provide further clues on the Bank’s thoughts on these matters as well as its views on other risks to the UK’s financial system such as the slowdown in emerging markets and the UK current account deficit, which remains close to a record high.”
