AUD/USD extends retreat from 2-week highs below 0.7100

FXStreet (Córdoba) - AUD/USD has extended losses below the 0.7100 level during the American session as the greenback strengthened despite a round of soft economic data.

AUD/USD retreated from 2-week highs following the RBA minutes during the Asian session and it has continued to inch lower amid broad USD strength, having scored a low of 0.7085 so far. At time of writing, the pair is trading at 0.7090, recording a 0.63% loss on the day, after three consecutive daily gains.

AUD/USD technical levels

As for technical levels, AUD/USD could find next supports at 0.7085 (Sep 15 low) and 0.7062 (Sep 14 low) ahead of 0.7035 (Sep 11 low). On the flip side, resistances line up at 0.7165 (Sep 15 high), 0.7205 (Aug 28 high) and 0.7249 (Aug 25 high).

Analysts at Brown Brothers Harriman explained that they suspect if the Fed does not hike rates this week, its statement will be rather hawkish, suggesting a rate hike has been delayed, but that it is still forthcoming.
