American equity markets open softly Monday
FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The US stock market opened lower Monday, despite highly reduced volumes and muted trading. In the United States, the Chicago Fed National Activity Index (April) came in at -0.53, compared to figure of -0.23 in the previous month.
Beginning with the indices and composites, the NASDAQ fell -0.08% as it settles in region of 3496.54, down -2.68 points in these moments. In addition, the S&P 500 is trading in negative territory, operating at 1666.35, descending -1.07 points or -0.06% at the time of writing. Finally, the Dow Jones has edged lower at the opening, trading in the zone of 15338.47, presently -0.10% after a movement of -15.93 points.
Sectors are nearly all mixed at the opening, however the Basic Materials and Technology sectors have distinguished themselves as the losers thus far, contracting -0.20% and -0.28% respectively. In other news, the price of crude is testing USD $95.34/bbl Monday.
